Dean Martin Show

Dean Martin Show

The Dean Martin dvd show was another feather in Dean's cap and earned him a star at the Hollywood boulevard for excellence in television. The show had a marathon run for nine consecutive years and remained a favorite among the audience. It was aired on NBC from 1965 to 1974 and had a total of 245 episodes in these nine years. The theme song of the show was Martin's Everybody Love Somebody Sometimes, this song is also inscribed at his gravestone and among his best known numbers.

When the team of NBC channel approached Martin with the concept of the show he was extremely diffident about it. Infact to shrug them off he asked for a ridiculously high salary and just a single appearance per week for the recording of the show. However NBC probably thought more of Dean, than he did himself and they accepted this astonishing offer.

Thus started one of the most successful ventures of this life. He played the part of a drunkard, loafing around on the sets with a glass of booze in his hand. The format of the show included two solo performances by him along with amusing sketches, gags and celebrity interviews His gags were extremely famous. One which he did repeatedly also starred his friend Frank Sinatra. He would play a song and the audience was to guess the singer and win a prize. More often than not it was one of Frank's songs. When no one would be able to guess the right person, Frank himself popped on the stage to give the right answer and claim the prize, which was a ticket to their (Frank and Dean's) home town, Los Angeles. Another regular one was to have a celebrity knock on a closed door, put up on the sets. On being opened it would present a celebrity, much to the delight of the audience (Sometimes Dean himself didn't know who it was). Some regular guests at the show were Charles Nelson Reilly Nipsey Russel and Dom DeLuise.

The show had a lot of hilarious moments and this wasn't Dean's first tryst with comedy,he had had already worked with comedian Jerry Lewis in the beginning of his Career. He always cracked jokes with the celebrities, sometimes crooning along with them and making everyone laugh. His pianist was often amused to the point of losing concentration.

The show had a superb climax and he would perform with the celebrities and have a musical ending. Frank ruled the telly with his perfect comic timing and musical talent.
